Sexy Chicken

Hey y’all!

I had a lovely day yesterday followed by a wonderful evening of self pampering! Everyone knows I love my fried chicken, I really do but…I was texting with a friend yesterday and I mentioned that I marinate my chicken in a “sexy sauce”, it’s always delicious, people love it. So I decided to make today’s post dedicated to said the “sexy sauce”.

Sexy Marinade:


1 bunch parsley, finely chopped
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 bay leaf
3 tablespoons capers, finely chopped
1 bunch cilantro, finely chopped
2-3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/4 teaspoon truffle oil (optional)
1 tablespoon hot pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 inch fresh ginger, grated
1 shallot, minced
1/4 Cup grape seed oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar


1. Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl, big enough to fit your chicken pieces. I suggest you run the ingredients through a blender or use an immersion blender to combine them well, which I normally do.

2. Plop your chicken pieces into the marinade and make sure you rub that sexy sauce really well into your chicken. Don’t be shy.

3. Leave the chicken in the bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate the chicken in the marinade for 2-3 hours, turning every 30 minutes or so to keep every inch of the chicken coated well.

4. Cook on grill/on a pan/in the oven. This chicken is done.

*For those of you who swear by zip-lock bags as your marinading friends just go ahead and skip the bowl, doesn’t matter where your chicken soaks up the sexy…just as long as it does*


Summer Globes

Hey y’all!


Now, we all know that snow globes exist. We used to play with them since we were kids, and buy them when we go on trips to remember the different places you’ve been too…etc. But how about summer globes? I am going to share with you a way to make your very own summer globes! Easy, fun, and looks awesome.

What you need:

Clear jar with flat screw-on lids.
Take apart and clean.

Choose figures/figurines and/or scenery from plastic, ceramic, glass or enameled metal items that won’t deteriorate in water.

Adhesive: Use epoxy or a polystyrene based adhesive sealant (which you can find at hardware stores) to glue figures and scenery onto dome base (lid). Use good-quality clear silicone sealant (which you can also find at hardware stores) to prevent leaks and seal the lid with the jar.

Colored/clear glitter or tiny sequins (found at craft supply stores).

Distilled water (available at grocery stores and drugstores).

Liquid soap, such as Palmolive/Softsoap.

Pure glycerin (find at drugstores).


To make:

1. Decide if you want the summer dome to  be viewed from all sides or will it have a background and foreground.

2. Play around with the placement of figures and scenery before setting it in place. Set them up on base, stopper or jar lid, then cover with dome, globe or jar. The glass will most likely magnify the objects; you may decide to change them or their placement.When you are satisfied, set in place with the adhesive; let dry.

4. Place about 2 to 5 mL (1/2 to 1 tsp) of glycerin and a very tiny drop of liquid soap in upturned globe; fill it half full with distilled water and shake to mix.

5. Pour 2 to 5 mL of glitter into mixture. Shake to mix. Finish filling globe with distilled water. Shake to mix. If you want to add more glitter, now is the time to do it.

6. Apply the silicone around inside edge of the jar lid. Screw onto jar. Assemble as follows: Holding globe or jar over dishpan, be careful and slow. Allow any excess water to escape over rim of glass. Don’t rush. If the figures and scenery are inserted in the mixture too forcefully or rapidly, the pressure may crack the glass.

*Don’t keep your summer dome in strong sunlight or expose it to extremes of hot or cold.

Chick Habits

Hey y’all!

H’okay dear readers! This is my list of things I am looking forward to this spring/summer, the said list will be followed by my favorite summer drink recipes:

Things I am looking forward to:

School: yes, you all know this one.

Sunshine: I am craving warm weather and nice sunny days!

My Birthday: Oh hush your face, everyone likes their own birthday. Why wouldn’t you? A day you get away with almost anything, get treated extra nice and get cake!? Yeah! I am looking forward to that.

Getting back in shape: No, this isn’t some stupid new years resolution …I just want my summer badonkadonk back.

Sweet tea with a dash of bourbon: Summer days on my patio with a tall glass of happy juice, of course that’s not going to happen too often; after all, I need to keep my brain study ready!

Picnics: I’m pretty sure people don’t do much of this anymore but I love it! Some light snacks and a pitcher of a delicious drink, my camera and some music.

Outdoor Studying: Love to study outdoors on hot weekends.

Barbecues: Succulent, flavor packed grilled meat…on a stick or a plate. A glass of a little somethin’ somethin’ and some corn on the cob. Need I say more?

Summer in general. Let my hair down, get me some of that laid on back. Take a drive out to some field to watch the stars, build a bonfire, have a get together out in my back yard. It’s a perfect kind of life.



Pink Bubbles: champagne and lychee juice. Mix to your own tastes.

Coconut Mojito:

12 mint leaves
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
2 ounces coconut rum
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
1 ounce cream of coconut from a well-shaken can
1 to 2 ounces chilled club soda

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint with the lime juice. Add the rum, Simple Syrup, cream of coconut and ice and shake vigorously. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass and top with the club soda.

Ultimate Sangria: 

3 pears, sliced
3 oranges, sliced
6 Granny Smith apples, sliced
24 canned lychees, drained
1 1/2 pineapples, peeled and cut into large chunks
One 750-milliliter bottle vodka
One 750-milliliter bottle Sauvignon Blanc or other dry, citrusy white wine
1/2 cup peach schnapps

In an airtight container or large bowl covered with plastic wrap, combine all of the ingredients except the ice and refrigerate for at least 24 hours. Strain the mixture into a punch bowl, discarding all of the fruit except for the lychees. Add enough ice to chill the sangria to serving temperature.


1 1/4 oz dark rum
3 oz guava juice
1 oz coconut cream

Pour the rum, guava juice and coconut cream into a blender with one cup of crushed ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into a tall glass. Serve with funky straw.

Safe sex on the beach: 

peach nectar, grapefruit juice, pear nectar, coconut water blended with crushed ice.

Equal parts of all, throw into blender and blend until smooth.


1 1/2 oz coconut milk
3/4 oz cream
2 oz pineapple juice
1 banana

Blend in a blender with a bit of crushed ice until all ingredients come together and form a smoothie-type consistency.


The Fizz:

3 cups unsweetened apricot juice
3 cups ginger ale
1 tbsp lemon juice

Combine apricot juice, ginger ale, and lemon juice; stir well, and pour into individual glasses.

And to top it all off here are the last two most interesting non-alcoholic summer spritzers:

Green Tea Spritzer:

1/4 ounce good quality Chinese green tea leaves
1/4 cup lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
1/4 cup pomegranate syrup or pomegranate molasses, without any added sweeteners
3/4 cup ginger syrup
Mint, to garnish
Lemon slices, to garnish

Place the tea leaves in a large bowl. Heat 3 1/2 cups of water to about 170°F. (Or bring to a boil, then let cool for 5 minutes.) Pour the hot water over the green tea leaves and steep the tea for 5 minutes. Strain the tea, keeping the liquid and discarding the leaves.

Stir in the lemon juice, pomegranate syrup and ginger syrup. Add 8 cups of cold water. Stir. Let sit overnight in the refrigerator.

for the ginger syrup:

1/2 pound fresh ginger root, skin on
3 cups white sugar
2 cups water

Cut the ginger into knuckle-sized pieces. Buzz the ginger in a food processor or chopper until it is fine and stringy, like rough wood chips.

Add the sugar and water to a large saucepan and whisk to combine. Bring to a boil and lower the heat. Simmer just until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in the chopped ginger. Let the pot cool on the stove, then put it in the fridge to steep overnight.

The next day, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve at least twice, to remove the finer bits of ginger. Discard the ginger. Pour the syrup into a bottle or closed container and refrigerate. This syrup will keep for several weeks at least, as long as it is refrigerated.

Elderflower and Blackberry Spritzer:

1 liter soda water, chilled
1/2 cup elderberry flower syrup, chilled
Juice of 1 lime
About 1/3 cup blackberries, washed
1/4 mint leaves

Whisk the soda water and elderberry flower syrup with the lime. Stir in the blackberries and muddled mint leaves and serve immediately.



I finally clicked the check-out button on my online shopping order! Haha I usually go online and look at stuff I want to buy, add to shopping cart and realize it’s expensive, close the window and sigh. But today, I went to Victoria’s Secret online and bought myself some stuff! And this weekend I am going to treat my best friends and parents to a batch of dolce de leche cupcakes with a chocolate glaze as part of my tea service (yes, that happens in this house). In fact let me tell you how this weekend will play out:

So, today turned out well, this weekend will be awesome and to add to all of this schools starting soon! I am stoked for all this!

Let me share the recipe for the muffins I shall be making:

Tres Leches Coconut Muffin with Dulce de Leche Buttercream:

1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
3 eggs, separated
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 cup lightly toasted flaked coconut (Mounds or Angel Flake brand)
Dulce de Leche Buttercream:
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (Eagle brand)
2 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
14 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the shortening, butter, and sugar until light and fluffy on medium speed; add egg yolks 1 at a time, beating until all the yellow disappears. Add the vanilla. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add alternately with the buttermilk to the creamed mixture beginning and ending with the flour.

In a small bowl, beat the egg whites on high speed until stiff peaks form. Fold into cake batter.

Fill standard paper-lined muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Transfer cupcakes to wire rack that has been placed over a baking sheet to cool.

While cupcakes are still warm, stir together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and the coconut milk. Using a meat injector needle, inject each cupcake in several different spots with about 1/2 to 3/4-ounce of the mixture. Or, poke several holes in the top of each of the cupcakes with a 1/4-inch wooden skewer. Pour the milk mixture over each cupcake while they are still warm, filling each hole. Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight before icing.

For the Buttercream:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. To make the dulce de leche, pour the sweetened condensed milk into a glass pie plate and cover with foil. Place in a larger roasting pan where pie plate can sit flat. Pour hot water into the roasting pan to a depth of about halfway up the pie plate. Place in oven and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Stir until smooth.

Place egg yolks in a medium mixing bowl. Stir the sugar, cornstarch, and salt together in a small, heavy saucepan. Whisk in the water first, then the dulce de leche and bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute, whisking constantly. Remove from heat. Gradually whisk the dulce de leche mixture into the 2 egg yolks. Stir in the vanilla. Strain through a wire mesh strainer into a small bowl and set aside to cool completely.

Beat the butter on high speed in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in the cooled dulce de leche mixture. Beat in the 1 cup powdered sugar until smooth and spreadable.

Frost each cupcake with a generous amount of dulce de leche buttercream. Refrigerate any remaining buttercream for another use. Sprinkle each cupcake with toasted coconut.

I am keeling over on my couch right now after a brisk 30 minute walk in quite warm weather carrying 5 textbooks for my new semester. I had a crap night and terrible sleep, so my energy is drained completely. On another hand… yay! It’s warm and beautiful out! If only I had my camera…but alas my friend borrowed it and now I am stuck with crappy photos…give me back my camera, George! hehe.

I have this odd obsession with a good smelling home. However, I hate those artificial smelling items like plug-ins, sprays, or candles. I prefer a thing called Scentsy. What I love about Scentsy is that they have a phenomenal selection of wonderful scents, most of which smell perfect and some of which smell edible! Before I go on listing out my favorite scents, I’ll explain what Scentsy is: a choice of wick-less decorative ceramic warmers made to melt scented wax cubes by using a small light bulb and a trey over it (it’s safe). The scented wax comes in packaged bars and you break off a cube of scent and place it in the warmer, which then slowly melts and diffuses the smell of your choice into the air. Flippin’ fantastic, lasts for a week per cube if you have a stronger scent and you get 8 cubes per bar.  The best part is that the wax and scents they use are super health conscious wax and fragrance- safe for pets and kids and do not contain or release harmful phthalates. The Scentsy wax bars don’t ever burn they simply melt and stay melted while kept on so you can keep the scent on throughout the day if you wish. So these are just some of the reasons why I love Scensty, and I also love how amazing their stuff smells and how much variety they have! Moving on, I have a lot of scents from them and 2 burners…I have 2 mid-sized burners which are nice around the house when you don’t have much space, but they have 3 different sizes: plug-in size, mid-size, and full-size.

My favorite scents (I have only tried several so far and have a large list of wants still hehe):

1. Luna: Smells so wonderful! Like a summer breeze!

2. My Dear Watson: Really sophisticated and dapper! It’s in the Scentsy Man section but it’s not very manly, just a very pleasantly elegant aroma.

3. Zeppelin: This is good enough to be a cologne for a really clean-cut guy, yet laid-back guy. Sage and vetiver and a little hint of citrus! Awesome.

4. Serene Green: Serene is the proper term for this one! So fresh and doesn’t have too much floral it’s more citrusy but not sour.

5. Hendrix: Earthy, patchouli with vanilla. When I smell it, I think of a bonfire and some good friends.

6. Apple Press: Smells like apples, surprise! But not fresh apples, more like hot apple cider. Smells like autumn days.

7. Ace: Smells like a hot guy, just out of the shower, haha yes, really you’ll see what I mean! It’s spicy, warm and seductive. It’s not over powering at all, it’s a lighter scent.

8. Just Breathe: This smells reaaaally crisp. Like a walk through a forest after the rain or being surrounded by eucalyptus and mayor lemons.

9. Clean Breeze: Smells like fresh, clean laundry. I usually plug this in on days I do housework, it keeps the clean-house theme well haha.

10. Tingelo: Welcome to your tropical vacation…err well kind of! This scent smells fruity and sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet. Very delightful!

Hope you all are having a wonderful week! I know the internet is all about cats right now, but I’ve been all about cats for a while now…years actually. So, I have learned quite a bit about the proper care of my feline friends. Me and my kitty, Bailey have quite a connection. I got her as a gift (kind of), my friend’s friend has a cat and that said cat had kittens and they had no idea what to do with them…now, at that point I was going through a rough patch in my life and was already looking at getting a kitten for company. So it was a perfect match! I had received photos of the kittens throughout the month that they were with their mother and Bailey was the odd ball she was tiger colored while the other kittens were grey…there was only another kitten there that was the odd ball out and he was black (my best friend took that one home). Right off the bat I told the person to not give the striped kitten away because I wanted her. So, one fine morning my best friend arranged for a ride to another town close by where the kittens were; and that’s how Bailey arrived at my place at a really early age (she was only 5 weeks old so I was basically the replacement for her mom, baby sat her until she was 2 months old) because the people who had the mother were moving and therefore had to get the cats out before-hand. That’s the story of my fluff ball! She turned out to be a Maine Coon cross with something else (no one knows) so I lucked out haha.


Proper Care:

1. Make sure you take your feline companion to regular check-ups, routine vaccinations and if you have any concerns with him/her acting a little out of the norm. Signs to look for: heavy breathing, unusual eating patterns, not drinking/eating, sleeping more than usual over several days, aggressive when usually not (could mean the cat has injured him/her self), their meow is different than normal, walking is off. If the concern is nothing then you’re golden and if it is an actual issue that needs addressing, at lease you got to the vet and nipped the illness/problem in the butt at the earliest signs.

2. Food: Shop for your companion as you would for yourself-get good quality food. Look at the nutrition levels, ask your vet to recommend a good product. If your cat is an indoor cat then get the proper food for indoor cats and make sure to consult your vet which food is best for your cat. Never plop down large amounts of food in your cats bowl. It’s easy to over-feed your cat. Kitties get easily conditioned to a certain routine and mount of food, so make sure you don’t feed your cat more than 3 times a day and no more than a cup of dry food per day as well as a small can of wet food. Water, water, water!! Always make sure your kitty has a good supply of fresh water available at any time they need…I give my cat bottled water or boiled (and obviously cooled) water because the water we get from the tap has a lot of cleaning chemicals which is not good for you or your feline, some cats may not even drink tap water. Do not give milk to your cat, it’s not good for them-unless it’s special cat milk in the pet food store. However, that’s just general guide lines, ideally talk to your vet for the ideal feeding of your specific cat. However if your cat is over-weight NEVER starve your cat or drop the amount of food drastically…speak to a professional about the specific diet your kitty needs. Bottom line: Make sure to feed your cat the right type of food, at the right times, and the right amount. 

3. BONDING: Find time to bond with your companion, that’s a very important thing. Your kitty is your friend, simply feeding, taking your cat to the vet and grooming it won’t fulfill his/her needs they need love too. It’s simple to bond with your cat, even making a little ball out of tin foil (proven best toy on planet by Bailey) and chasing it around the house together for 10 minutes a day is good. Snuggle, cuddle, kiss, pet, goof around with your friend; they need love and affections just like people. I suggest start the cuddles, snuggles, carrying kitty in your arms, and kisses as soon as you bring him/her home to condition them to that being the norm and it helps make your cat more affectionate and tolerant of your snuggle needs.

4. Litter Box Care: Use natural kitty litter, it’s better for your cat’s health and absorbs way better than sand and plastic beads. Plus, it’s less messy and doesn’t cause excess dust to your house. I use natural pine wood kitty litter made of compressed pine…it’s environmentally friendly and safe for cats and kittens because it has no harsh/artificial fragrances, free of dangerous silica dust, and no unnatural chemical additives. Make sure you keep the kitty litter tray clean and change it often, sometimes if the litter tray is dirty the cats will tend to pee elsewhere and then you have yourself a problem.

5. Let kitty be kitty: Cat’s are assholes sometimes! I lucked out because my cat has the personality of a dog when it comes to a lot of things, but she’s still a goof sometimes! Get’s into shenanigans all the time actually haha. Your cat will probably try to climb where they shouldn’t, your best bet is to give your cat a positive outlet for their cheeky nature…such as putting doors on the cabinet where your china is and instead buying a cat tree. It’s important to understand the your cat isn’t a dog, cats don’t respond well to negative reinforcement (such as what you would normally do with dogs when they do wrong you can scold them). Instead, use positive reinforcement such as treats. Don’t over suffocate your cat with affection either, let them have their space, otherwise you can aggravate them and cause them to bite or scratch you.

6. Think: Put a lot of thought into whether or not to let your cat out. Cat’s actually may not always be able to find their way back home, contrary to popular belief cat’s can get disorientated if they are in a sketchy situation or frightened. There’s traffic, other animals, and people…who don’t like cats. Hooligans can easily hurt your cat. Parasites and diseases may only be a slight concern for indoor cats where as for outdoor cat’s its a scary reality. In general letting your cat outside can lead to serious injury, death, loss, or theft of your kitty. If you feel you want your cat to experience the out-doors I suggest a harness and leash that you can walk around your back yard with.

Home Made Cat Treats: Makes about 50 small treats. Courtesy of

1 large egg

1 4-oz jar chicken and brown rice baby food (or something meaty which may include canned wet cat food)

1/4 cup parsley, coarsely chopped

2 teaspoons olive oil

2 tablespoons water

1 cup brown rice flour

1/2 cup cooked white (or brown) rice

other things you might add other treats like : 1 tablespoon of catnip or a hearty tablespoon of extra wet cat food.

Place a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together egg, baby food (or wet cat food), parsley, olive oil, and water. Add brown rice flour and cooked rice. Stir to incorporate. The mixture will be thick but spreadable.

Spread mixture onto prepared baking sheet creating a rectangle that is about 1/3 of an inch thick. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

Remove from the oven. Let rest until cool enough to handle, then slice soft dough into bite-sized pieces. Return pieces to the oven to bake for another 8 minutes. Remove from the oven. Allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. I store my treats in the fridge just to be safe.

There’s no snooze button on a cat that wants breakfast!

DIY Decor

Hey y’all!

Summer is right around the corner and we all want a summer ready home. Changing up the interior of your home can be costly and since we can’t afford to do that kind of thing every season (at least most people can’t), what we can do is DIY projects that are simple yet elegant and add fun little touches to your home. Best part is they are darn cheap to do! Enjoy these great DIY decor ideas 🙂

Glitter Candles: For any Room You Want To Spruce Up

  • 4 different size Ikea white plain candles (I find these are the cheapest and there’s virtually no difference between the more expensive ones)
  • News Paper
  • Adhesive Spray
  • Glitter (colors of choice, mine are: mint green, powder blue, and soft yellow)
  • Scotch Tape
  • Pieces of paper


  • Take a candles and wrap a piece of paper around the candles, exposing only the area you want glitter on. Secure with scotch tape around the perimeter of the paper.
  • Cover the surface you are working on with news paper. Stand the candles up on the news paper and spray the exposed candle with the adhesive spray.
  • Sprinkle on the glitter carefully over a piece of paper, try to get an even coat on the candle. If a lot of glitter falls off, just fold the paper up and pour the glitter back into it’s container.
  • Repeat for all 4 candles.
  • Let the glitter and glue dry completely before removing the tape and paper.

Mug Herb Garden: For the Kitchen

  • As many mugs as you want, it depends how many herbs you’d like to plant
  • Small stones
  • Seeds/ready-grown herbs
  • Soil (for seeds)


  • Sprinkle the base of each cup with a layer of small stones to promote draining.
  • If you are using ready-grown herbs just carefully transfer them to the mugs. And if you are using seeds: fill the mugs with soil and plant some seeds in each mug. 
  • Place on the kitchen windowsill for a cute kitchen mug garden.

Bottle Vases: For Any Room

  • Empty glass bottles
  • Chalkboard Paint
  • Chalk


  • Remove labels from the bottles: I do so by filling a sink with really hot water and placing the bottles in the water, turning them over after one side has soaked for close to half an hour.
  • Take bottles out of the water and remove the labels completely, try with dish towel and set aside upside down until completely dry.
  • Once they have thoroughly dried take them outside and spray with the chalkboard paint. I suggest minimum of 2 coats and a 3rd one may be needed. Leave to dry/set.
  • Write anything you like on your new chalkboard bottle vases!

Bottle Stoppers: For The Party Nights

  • Craft glue
  • Crystals, mini figurines, anything you’d like to place on top of the stopper
  • Cork bottle stoppers (new)


  • Apply craft glue to the thicker, larger end of the cork and press on your choice of topper.
  • Leave to dry completely.

Meteor Shower Of Thoughts

Hey y’all.

Apparently there was supposed to be a meteor shower tonight, so I was just outside for a good hour looking at the sky, listening to the silence of the night and talking to my heart trying to explain why I feel how I do lately; sometimes I catch myself wondering what might have been different in my life if certain things happened or didn’t happen, what if I had done things I didn’t do and not done somethings I did do…I know, it’s pointless the past is the past and you can’t change it but history is bound to repeat itself unless we learn from it. So I kept talking to my heart trying to really listen to what it is trying to tell me because, I usually only listen to my brain-it’s proven more effective in life. However…I miss hearing from my heart. It has become so drowned out by my logic and so detached from my everyday life that I almost begin to feel like what I imagine a man feels like when he manages a large company. Full steam ahead, logic and reasoning over any ounce of emotion, strict and calculated movements…that’s because in the past I was like every other woman-cheerful, vivacious, emotionally in-tune with myself and responded to things in a way that isn’t so…reserved. They were good days but had some serious down falls. For example that lead me to one of my (now ex) boyfriends, the relationship we had and then the on and off period after the break-up happened and other things which have caused me to tell my emotions and heart to take a hike until further notice. Well tonight, as I was sitting there I allowed my heart to speak…everything became so clear, I heard what my heart was telling me, I understood it and funny enough…this time around my heart and my head are perfectly in sync. They agree. It’s amazing what being alone in silence and without a single distraction can help you understand about yourself. I think we could all benefit from these moments once in a while. Sadly…I didn’t see any meteors tonight, we have too much light pollution here in the city. God I miss the country…a velvet sky crammed full of stars as bright as diamonds and the fresh air that is so uncontaminated compared to the city it’s almost sweet. Summer nights laying in the bed of a pick-up truck or on a blanket, bonfire a few feet away…that’s what life is about, it’s about the people, the universe, enjoying nature and a good song in the background of it all; it’s not about sleek high rises in the middle of down-town full of expensive modern “art”, clubs with music so tasteless and obnoxious it makes your head hurt, and definitely not about how many times you’ve gone to a tanning salon this month. I know it’s idealistic of me to say that, maybe, but then again…is it really that off-the-wall these days to believe that the world is about more than just what’s under our spoiled noses? There are people out there who are so spoiled they allow themselves to give in to their moods and allow themselves the freedom of just being how they are and doing whatever they want to do without any concern for other’s and put no effort at all for being pleasant or concerned with someone else other than themselves. They expect to be understood and forgiven almost instantly with a simple remark of “I’m having a bad day” and “sorry for being a dick but that’s just what today is gonna be like, you don’t wanna be around you can get outta my face just so you know though, I am making no effort” embedded in their tone or straight up said. Honestly…what kind of world are we coming to if that’s how so many people I have encountered act? I don’t think only the air is polluted in big cities, I think the majority of the people are also polluted. It’s alarming to think that I am surrounded by cold, uncaring, callous, impassive, and not genuine people.

You know, a little while ago…someone told me I look like Megan Fox…I thought to myself “is this really what’s considered a compliment these days” ? Do people really like hearing they look like a celebrity because that is what defines their ideas of beauty? I much rather that person had just said “you look lovely today” or “Nice necklace!” than comparing me to someone in order to gauge how pleasant I am to look at. I don’t even look remotely like her! Nor would I want to, I like to look like myself.

After tonight, I don’t know what I’ll change about my life, maybe nothing quite yet. However, I now utterly understand what I want out of this life and how I want to live my years on this planet. I know more clearly what kind of people I want beside me, as well as those I don’t and I know what I need to alter about myself to make myself better because we should never stop growing and bettering ourselves. This kind of thing doesn’t happen very often, in fact so rarely that I don’t remember the last time I actually took the time to listen and understand myself in all entirety. I think I might start giving myself time for self-reflection and world reflections every once in a while, it feels good to have time to be alone with your thoughts and raw emotions once in a blue moon… just as long as it’s done with self-control, no one needs to immerse themselves too deeply otherwise it can get a little dangerous.

Hmm well this turned into the rantings of a mad woman but doesn’t mean it ain’t all true, at least to me. Sorry, this post got a little long! Anyway, feel free to leave feedback y’all! I love reading what my readers have to say! But for now, I bid y’all a good night 🙂

Pens and Needles

Hello y’all!

What an awful sleep I got last night, gosh darn it. Second night in a row. Fist it was a car alarm then it was a bad dream. I think the dream stressed me out more so than the car alarm because it was to do with my future studies…I am nervous/anxious enough as it is having to go into the pre-medical studies program knowing that if I get lower than 80% average for any semester my application for Medical School will be chucked in the recycling bin. This dream only added to my fears of going through so much hard work only to fail at the very end. Good job brain!

On another note, I found a way to have a really healthy breakfast that requires almost no time to make and gives you enough energy to last well into the day. I think this will be my go-to breakfast this semester! This breakfast consists of 2 raw medium carrots -grated (on the fine side of the grater) and sprinkled with sugar, 1 cup of Greek honey yogurt, bowl of instant oatmeal, cup of tea/juice/coffee. You may think that eating carrots and sugar together is well beyond weird, but trust me if you try it you’ll like it…it’s such a refreshing and pleasant feel on the pallet and loaded with vitamin A. Granted, instant oatmeal isn’t the best but if you are a student rushing to class or simply short on time this is a perfect solution to get some fiber in your diet. The Greek yogurt is great for your digestive tract due to being full of probiotic bacteria. Honestly, after eating this for breakfast I realized I lasted almost until 2 pm without being hungry; I ate the breakfast at 9…so that’s pretty great! If you want even more of a boost added to your breakfast you can include a fruit smoothie made of fruits such as bananas for potassium and berries like  blue berries for antioxidants. Or, if you are short on time just toss the fruit/berries in your Greek yogurt for a quicker way to grab more nutrients.

Back to the first point I am feeling pins and needles all over just thinking about the excitement and the worries. On one hand I look around and see these pre-med students plowing through their work load and straining their brain to get the grade they need and I automatically think…shit, do I really want it bad enough to push myself into this kind of state? Then, I picture myself doing something else, going to school for something less intimidating and working at a different job; which leads to the conclusion that…yes, I do want it bad enough. So at the end of the day, no matter how hard it is going to get and how much I am going to cuss myself out for starting this road while I am stuck at home with a textbook almost every night, at the end of it I know I will be incredibly proud of myself for sticking to my calling and following through with my dream. Regardless of how much time it takes, how much stress I go through and, no matter how intense my life will be for the next little while…at the end, I’ll be who I always felt I was meant to be. That’s what matters. I know I have the best family and friends I could ever wish for. I cherish my parents, they are amazing beyond words and with their support and my good friends I know I will be able to get through anything.

Okay, enough rambling sappy life lectures and epiphany babble from me haha!

Back to the yee-haws and sweet tea!

Speaking of sweet tea, I know some people might be curious what the traditional way to make it is. I’ve been asked before and it’s super simple!

Sweet Tea:

3 cups water
8-10 regular-size tea bags  (I use earl grey because I like that flavor best, but any black tea is fine)
1 cup sugar
3 cups cold water
Ice cubes


1. Add sugar to 3 cups of water and bring to a boil; remove from heat, give a quick stir. Add tea bags and let them steep for about 20-30 minutes and then toss the tea bags out.

2. In a large pitcher, combine the steeped tea with cold/room temp. water and stir to mix it well. First pour the tea syrup in then follow with the water.

3.  To Serve: use a glass (I prefer tall glasses) – if you want to add some subtle flavor to your tea toss in a slice of lemon and/or a sprig of mint.

*In order to not make murky tea: use room temperature filtered water (bottled works fine too) & add the ice the glass and pour the tea over the ice instead of the other way around.

4. Lay in your backyard with a magazine or a good book, sunglasses and your glass of cool sweet tea.

Fuck Ovaries

Hey y’all!

Sometimes it really, really…re-he-he-he-heally sucks to be a girl. Mother nature is cruel…going through so much cramping pain right now! UGGHH!

This happens every couple months. One month it’ll be painless and easy to deal with and the next month it will be awful, sheer agony; sometimes the pain doesn’t happen for 2 months and I get excited thinking maybe I’m on a good streak but nope, 3rd month comes and it’s pain again! Go die in a wild fire if you complain to me about being a guy one more time!!


When I was in high school, I remember one day I was coming into school on the crimson tide. I walked down the hall way and into my Biology class, sat down and half way through class I could feel the pain growing stronger and stronger and more extreme with every few minutes. I excused myself to make a call for a ride home and just before I reached the front desk I felt faint. I nearly collapsed in school…it was so bad. I was in tears by the time I got in my dad’s car. That’s when I started cursing mother nature for this “gift” of being a woman. Oh yeah haha and pills don’t really work all that well once the pain is already started, it takes ages for them to kick in anyway so sitting/laying there in misery trying my best not to focus on the anguish is really difficult. But I have to function in society and attend classes which I cannot miss since I am a pre-med student…so I have some rare months where I have to email my professors and explain to them that I am physically unable to get out of my bed to make it to class; and sometimes they understand, though there are a few that don’t and claim I need a note from my doctor…which is completely stupid, why would I go to my doctor for a note if I can’t even get out of my bed that morning. What, do I need to go to my doctor every time I feel crappy just to pay 25 dollars for a note saying “Yes, she indeed is suffering from what she claims” so you believe me? Fuck right off, professor. Carrying on, I have found that taking 1 (or sometimes two as a doctor suggested) of the extra strength giant Advil (Ibuprofen) pills usually does the trick best. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is not an anti inflammatory, contrary to popular belief, it is mostly an analgesic or anti-pain medication which doesn’t help what-so-ever when it comes to crimson tide days. Bottom line when you are in pain reach for Advil, when you have a fever…reach for Advil. Why? Because for the most part Ibuprofen does not have any severe site effects nor does it do as much damage in comparison to its counterpart. It works by inhibiting two enzymes which are the enzymes in the production of prostaglandins which are what controls inflammation and fever. Sooo yeah Advil, folks!

Ahhh Advil kicked in…this is pure bliss.

I am now going to go continue to play Sim City 5 and sip some tea. 🙂
